‘Can’t you do something with her?’ Duncan asked Tilly, as they watched Mia walking slowly towards the club room after a lesson. ‘Take her for a hack – anything to put a smile on her face!’

‘Come on, Mia,’ called Tilly firmly. ‘Magic needs some exercise. Why don’t you ride Watson?’

Mia paused, then nodded reluctantly and followed Tilly to the long field.

‘What’s that?’ said Tilly. They’d just finished tacking up their horses in the yard.

‘Oh,’ said Mia in surprise. She’d pulled a scrap of paper from her jacket pocket. ‘It’s that phone number the woman at Waltham Grange gave us the other day, about the horse in Stitch Green. I’d forgotten all about it.’
